ANIMOTO

Hello Everyone,

“Animoto is a cloud-based video creation service that produces video from photos, video clips, and music into video slideshows.”

I found Animoto to be yet another interesting resource presented through this class! Animoto strays away from the standard ‘boring’ slideshow format in ways that really add value to your presentations. It is quite realistic to say, ‘Animoto brings your pictures to life’. I say this because Animoto turns your photos and other sources of media into a captive video.  I find this to be a great way to get a message across while not losing viewer interest.

The task given to us this week through Animoto was to create a presentation relating to the knowledge about copyright that we feel digital citizens must know.  This was to be done through a presentation using CC and other copyright friendly photos.

A copyright, which I am sure many of you have at least heard of in the past, is the exclusive legal right, given to an originator or an assignee to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material, and to authorize others to do the same. With that being said, you can see that understanding what exactly a copyright is proves to be very valuable in the digital world.

Below are the areas of focus in my Animoto presentation, based off of the copyright protections listed above:
·      Literary Works
·      Dramatic Works
·      Music
·      Artistic Works
·      Sound Recordings

I decided to make these areas the main focus of my presentation because I think that they are the most relevant copyright issues in today’s world. Many people break copyright law simply because they are uneducated in this field. It is very easy to download a song or copy an image onto a presentation without even thinking twice. I hope that this blog page, as well as the mini-presentation I created will help others seek further education on this very relevant issue.

Through the use of Animoto and other resources provided through this week’s session, I was able to gain an understanding of what to look for when downloading images to make sure the copyrights permit downloading. Through this process, I was able to create my own presentation knowing that I was legally obtaining the images presented.

You can check out the Animoto presentation I was referring to in this post about copyrights and digital citizenship below!
